One Health Unit will ensure the integration of enhanced healthcare of human beings, environment, domestic animals and wild life and PSPU will act as focal point for this integration in Punjab, said Dr. Shagufta Zareen Program Director Policy & Strategic Planning Unit Punjab.
Succeeding the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chief Minister of Punjab and under the able leadership of the Minister of Health Punjab Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Policy and Strategic Planning Unit (PSPU)Punjab has developed the Provincial One Health Unit with the notification of Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Punjab.
A delegation of Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) headed by Commandant AFPGMI Major General Salman Ashraf visited the Policy & Strategic Planning Unit Punjab to attend a seminar on Environmental Health and Pollution arranged by PSPU Punjab.
On this occasion the Program Director PSPU told the participants that with the advent of Provincial One Health Unit in PSPU, more concerted and integrated efforts would be put in the betterment of human, environment, domestic animals and wild life health envisioned by the federal and provincial governments.
The commandant AFPGMI Major General Salman Ashraf appreciated the initiative of Provincial One Health Unit and vouched to support this cause. Environment Health Specialist PSPU Dr. Ibrahim Mughal briefed the participants about the various environment health initiatives taken by the health department. He especially highlighted the World Bank project successful implementation of the healthcare waste management under Hospital Waste Management Rules 2014 in 17 districts of Punjab, safeguarding more than 40 million people of the province from underground water and environmental pollution. However, Hepatitis & Infection Control Program is already disposing hospital waste across the province at District and Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals.
